Easy Font Management

By Nancy

If you are an avid font collector, like many digital scrapbookers, you’ve probably found that you very quickly have a list of fonts longer than your arm.  And if you install all these fonts, the result is that your software slows right down to a crawl.  So what’s the solution?  The Font Thing.

The Font Thing is a free software tool that lets you store fonts in a folder other than your installed folder, and see what they look like before using them.  You can type in your own sample text, assign a size, and the preview will appear in your window.  Then, to use the font without actually having to install it, you just right click on the font name, click Load, and the font will be available for use, until you shut down your software.  Keep in mind that if you use a loaded font on your scrapbook page, its a good idea to simplify the layer (if you are using Photoshop Elements, rasterize if you are using Photoshop) before saving file, otherwise when you open your page again, your text will convert to a default installed font.

I discovered this little gem a couple years ago when I realized how my font collection was slowing my computer performance, and have found it invaluable.  I’m sure you will too!
